We have resumed our monthly group walk on the SNETT. We were a small group of energetic walkers with two well behaved furry friends, Oscar and Jasmine. We walked to the “nearly complete” Prospect Street tunnel which was full of activity and is looking great!
We also met two hard-working DCR employees, Anna and Joe, who were busy clearing the trail section leading up to the tunnel. The cooler weather today was ideal for trail use. We visited the StoryWalk(R) “The Kissing Hand” presentation near Center Street in Bellingham which will be up for your enjoyment through Wednesday, September 16, 2020! Hope you can join us for next month’s walk. Keep an eye out on our calendar, email and social media.
We will be installing a StoryWalk(R) along the SNETT in Bellingham in the near future. Watch Facebook event page for more details as well as the calendar on our website.
The book will be Get Up and Go by Nancy Carlson. The StoryWalk(R) will start at Center Street trailhead in Bellingham and go in the direction toward Lake Street. Please keep in mind social distancing when visiting. We are looking forward to see you on the trail!
The StoryWalk(R) Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kello-Hubbard Library. StoryWalk(R) is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.
Thanks to all who joined our successful “Walk off those Holiday Cookies” December group walk on the SNETT. This was another walk with an enthusiastic crowd (15 people and 2 dogs) as we braved some morning ice on the Grove Street and Lake Street sections and trekked all to way to Center Street in Bellingham.
Once the late morning sun arrived the trail was very navigable with the few icy spots clearly visible. The walkers who brought slip on ice crampons seemed especially enthusiastic!
On today’s walk we had two founding members, Mark and Raianne, of the Massachusetts Walking Tour group who related how they promote local arts and culture throughout Massachusetts. Their Walking Tour came through the SNETT and Franklin in 2017. If you have missed it, keep an eye out for their big, annual June event. Perhaps when our Prospect Street tunnel project is complete we can entice them back for a celebratory concert!
The January group walk will be held on Monday, January 20th (MLK Holiday) at 10am. Starting from Grove Street parking lot in Franklin. Happy New Year and hope you can join us on our January group walk on the SNETT!
Excellent turnout for our November ‘Walk Off That Turkey’ SNETT group walk! We had our most adventurous group to date as we walked the trail from Grove St in Franklin all the way to Center St in Bellingham (and back). This group that wouldn’t stop logged 5.2 miles worth of steps as the sunshine and scenery kept enticing us forward. We encountered many users of the SNETT including walkers, joggers and runners. It seemed like everyone who owned a black dog was out enjoying the trail today! We also noticed the Kindness Rocks display (near Center St trailhead) – it could use a few more stones with notes of kindness or encouragement :). We hope you can join us for our December walk, so keep your eyes on the calendar here or on our Facebook events page.
This month’s trail walk on the SNETT was extra entertaining as the wooded path featured a StoryWalk(R) book. The group strolled the Bellingham section of the SNETT starting at the Center St trailhead. Along the way kids and adults took turns reading the placard pages of “The Golden Acorn”. (Spoiler Alert: Basically friendship is the biggest reward!). Within the group was even a family represented by four generations! Autumn colors are really starting to bloom on the SNETT, so be sure to make time to visit.
We would like to thank our volunteer Darren Marino for organizing and leading the monthly group walks and we hope you can join us for our November one too. Keep an eye on the events on our website and/or our Facebook page for more details. See you on the trail!
Thank you to all who have joined us today for our dog/group walk. We walked from the Grove Street to Prospect Street in Franklin and back. On our 2.6 mile walk we have enjoyed the shade of the trail, saw beautiful nature, walked by Wadsworth Farm on Spring Street (you can read more about the history at the kiosk nearby or on our website), where you can purchase beautiful flower pots, fresh blueberries and enjoy the views of fields and meadows. We have met other dog walkers and runners who were out early to beat the heat. Our volunteer members also cleaned up the parking lot area and trail entrance area before walk – thank you!
Please keep en eye out on our event page here or on Facebook for the future walk and event announcements. See you on the trail!
Please join us on Friday, July 19, 2019 for a dog walk/group walk on the SNETT rail trail. We will start at 9am from the Grove Street trailhead in Franklin. Parking lot is across the street from the trailhead (next to Metcalf Materials). The trail is shaded and an easy walk. Please bring leash and anything else you and your dog may need on the walk.
